About Encontro no Rio

Encontro no Rio stands for encounter with nature, people, animals and yourself. In a unique location directly on the Mondego river, settled in almost untouched nature, it is a beautiful idyll. Our farm is secluded, but not lonely - it is like diving into another world, a peninsula embedded in a bend of the river. All apartments have matchless views over the river. In the spring and summer months, there is a huge expanse of water that invites you to swim and cool off. The rest of the time they let the river go down and we have a big meadow for our horses - many metres of river beach, beautiful for walks.

Around our saltwater pool, which invites you to swim, there are numerous places to sit and lie down. Barbecue specialities and meals can be enjoyed next door under palm trees or in the spacious building with large windows – each with an amazing river view. You can also end the evening there comfortably under the palms in a beautiful light ambience. The closeness to the river enables a regulated climate.

Furthermore, we rent out boats for river explorations. With our four horses, individual riding lessons and guided excursions through our forests can be booked directly on site.

This place promises a combination of healing peace, space that lets you breathe deeply, surrounded by different forests that give you a feeling of security, a peaceful atmosphere and beautiful nature. For us and our animals, this is a very special place whose uniqueness we would like to share with you. Here you can escape the stress of everyday life, take away the importance of time and treat yourself with a relaxing time-out. In addition to the possibility of using this place as a haven of peace, it also offers space for ventures and sporting activities such as swimming, hiking, cycling, sightseeing... Encontro no Rio offers you all this and much more.

We are really looking forward to welcome you to our paradise Encontro no Rio. We moved to Portugal in July 2021. We have dedicated two years to the renovation of our farm. Now we are very excited to share this wonderful place with you. We want many people to experience and enjoy the specialness and grace of this place. This place with its unique atmosphere will immediately captivate you. You cannot put this place into words - you have to experience and feel it. We have built our accommodation as a family business from a building site to a breathtaking holiday home. Five of us live here with all our horses, dogs, cats and goats. With modern energy generation methods, our own garden cultivation and well, we have a partially independent system.

Meet the family

David: I love to cook – and I love it even more when I can bring joy to other people with it.

Daniela: My passion are the horses. With our horses I have the opportunity here to bring young and old closer to our dealings on a partnership level and to make a horse experience possible.

Lisa: In addition to helping with the horses, I create the daily Instagram stories of the move and everyday life, capturing many moods and perspectives.

Franz: I take care of the garden and many handicrafts.

Hans: I have become proficient in electronic communication, and I am good and quick in research.

Our vision of Portugal: a life together full of sun. It was quickly decided that it would be a tourism project in Portugal. Our trip was a true adventure with ups and downs. And it exceeded our expectations. We love our paradise and the open-hearted portuguese mentality. Now we are starting a new chapter in our lives with the opening of Encontro no Rio. We are really looking forward to see you.
